Exhibition: 3NGRAV3D
Earlier this year, Kayle Lawson embarked on an extraordinary odyssey with New Zealand’s inaugural run crew, Grave Runners. Tasked with documenting their participation in The Speed Project – a brutal, unsanctioned 500 km race from Los Angeles to Las Vegas – Kayle captured every moment of triumph and torment.

Armed with multiple cameras, Lawson walked (ran?) away with 5,000 photos and three hours of video footage – a massive haul that promised countless hours in the edit suite.
From blistering desert heat to feral dog encounters, each frame tells a story of human endurance pushed to its absolute limits, distilling the raw emotion of 60 hours on the road with the Grave Runners crew. So, what better way to relive those unflinching lows and euphoric highs than through a dedicated exhibition?
3NGRAV3D, opening this Friday in Melbourne, will feature unreleased photos from The Speed Project alongside a film screening of the short and a panel discussion with the GR team. Tempo Journal will host the opening-night party, followed over the weekend by a community-led run and a mindfulness workshop led by support-crew member Ursula Griffen.
3NGRAV3D 3XHIBITION opens Friday night, 25 July, 6 pm–11 pm AEST at Tempo Journal Gallery (19–21 Johnston Street, Collingwood, Melbourne VIC). RSVP to the entire weekend of events and workshops, here.
In the meantime, have a little taste of Kayle’s lenswork with a sneak peek of some frames and zine spreads from Friday’s show. See you there.
